Organic certification Definitions of ‘organic’ farming vary internationally. Many countries operate national or ‘private’ standards, which do not have statutory status. The International Federation of Organic Farming Movements (IFOAM) operates an accreditation scheme for private and public certification bodies in order to bring uniformity to standards, particularly in the production of export commodities. Currently, organic farming practice is a legally defined farm assurance standard in both the EU and the USA.
